In a life that was so mundane and insignificant, fate brought out the most unpredictable things possible and laughed at you in its face.
For me? I liked to be on the other side of the fence. I enjoyed a game of fate, I thrived in it, and most of all, I prospered in manipulating it for my tastes. So when the fate of Myra Chaudhary fell right into my palm, who was I to deny her the humour of gods?
Myra Chaudhary.
She was the youngest daughter of Raja Vikranth Chaudhary of western India, modern-day Maharashtra and Gujarat. He may not be adorned in his jewels and bedazzling heritage, but the legacy of his ancestors was something you simply couldn't erase from history.
In the world of socialites, you know everyone and everything about them. His entry into Spain was a mere coincidence, but he fell right into our radars the moment he had married Valeria Cruz, making his mark in our lands.
He may be trying to expand his business into Spain but forgets whose soil he had walked into. Spain wasn't a no-man-lands ready to conquer for just anyone.
Everyone in the underworld knew of its true ruler, and they knew better than to anger them.
I, personally, had no animosity towards Mr. Chaudhary. He seemed to be a good businessman and an excellent investment to have, but as an asset for a personal vendetta? He was a jewel.
What better way to manipulate a man than to bring him to his knees for his daughter? According to my research, they weren't on good terms with the elder one, who had simply forfeited the whole thing and rendered herself useless.
However, fate calling me back to Knightson and my ball hitting the said girl in the very face made a dark chuckle roll out of me.
"What?" asked Keith from beside me as we walked through the corridor. Keith was the least annoying of the many people who flocked to me, including some of the professors here.
"Nothing," I replied, too quick.
The face of Myra Chaudhary had buried itself deep inside my mind. The way her doe eyes sat atop her flushed cheeks drew out something from within I wasn't even aware of—the image of her frail little self burnt behind my eyes.
She wasn't anything like I had expected.
Whereas Aliya Chaudhary was loud and brash and the topic of canards for everyone for her dishonourable reputation, there was little to nothing on Myra.
Finding a timid girl with a chilled look of indifference was the last thing in my head.
I watched Keith head towards the locker room while I tagged along. Our semester had finally begun last week in January, and Coach Willis waited no time to recruit us back into the team.
The locker rooms smelled of disinfectant and loads of testosterone as men changed into their jerseys for the practice that was to take place for the evening. Classes had been a blur of events, and I had not once crashed into her.
It felt like she had been actively avoiding me or maybe I was simply not paying much attention. Huh.
I decided today that I would be paying her a visit, regardless of how the practice would ensue.
Heading to the field, I almost faltered in my steps. There she stood, right next to the goth girl and Jeremy, and looked like she had come to watch us play.
"Isn't that?" Keith asked from beside me as my eyes narrowed in on her.
She wore a light cardigan in the freezing winter and had her arms wrapped around herself to trap some warmth for respite.
However, her eyes were on another player on the field. I followed her gaze and stopped at the tall junior on the opposite team who was vivaciously waving at the girls.
"Who's that?" I asked, my eyes falling on the blonde guy's head as he headed towards the mid fielder's position while I took the place of the striker with Keith beside me.
"Noah Walker." Keith did a few warm-ups, stretching himself on the grass as I felt a pair of curious eyes on me. I found the familiar gaze of the girl as I marched the look on her face with a smile of my own.
"He's the son of that band member, dude" he pulled at his strands, "fuck what's his name?"
"Sounds irrelevant."
"You are such a little bitch." He exclaimed as the referee initiated the game with the blare of his whistle.

After hours of running and screaming, our team had managed to score a 2-1 with the juniors and was announced victories for the day. They were a tough group to deal with.
Their goalkeeper, especially, was ruthless and took kicks and nicks from every shoe and leg without as much flinching. He'd make a great addition to the team. Coach made us play against them to weed out the weaklings.
Unfortunately, Noah Walker was no weakling.
The water from the shower cascaded down my skin, calming the sore muscles as I flexed them straight. My palms were flat across the cold marble, and the water washed away the tension.
I wrapped myself with a towel before changing into a fresh set of clothes. I quickly texted my trainer, claiming I'd have to skip out on gym day since pressing matters required my immediate attention, and headed out to the bleachers.
Jeremy had stopped hanging around them and instead was replaced by Noah as a goth girl, and Myra stuck to him like a moth drawn to a flame.
I watched their exchange as they embraced each other, and Noah enthusiastically explained the game to them. Myra listened tentatively while the goth girl simply gagged before they continued chattering some more.
I was surprised they hadn't noticed my arrival as I casually slid my arm across Noah's shoulders in camaraderie.
"Well played, Walker," I told him as the boy flinched, but the look of defence quickly dissipated as a smile broke out, clearly in happiness at the little compliment I threw at him.
"Thank you, captain!" He said, his eyes glinting. "Oh, right."
He moved under my hold and turned towards the girls, who didn't match the excitement on his face. Myra's eyes widened a bit before a look of indifference crossed them while the goth girl was busy shooting daggers at me.
I didn't understand the latter's reaction as I knitted my eyebrows in a frown.
"This is Mirabelle." He gestured towards the goth girl, who forced a smile on her face. It wasn't charming.
"And this is Myra. They are my friends." I watched Myra, waiting to see if a look of recognition would appear or if she would tell her friends she knew about me, but before she got the opportunity goth girl- Mirabelle beat her to it.
"Aren't you the one from the other day?" She snapped, and suddenly, the memory of that hit me of a whiny bitch that had been next to Myra while I had been busy carrying her to the nurse's office.
Noah looked between us in confusion, which meant his friends had decided to bury our little get-together within themselves, and I decided to relieve him from the fear of missing out.
"Right." My eyes fell on the brunette who refused to meet with mine, and I wanted nothing more than to grab her chin and lift it up.
"The other day, I kind of shot at her head." I stepped towards her, invading her personal space and forcing her to look up at me with those ojitos. My hands automatically reached for the spot on her head as I lightly brushed a hand through her hair and touched her scalp, "Hope it's alright now."
I felt her take a sharp breath and almost smiled in satisfaction. The knowledge that my touch had affected her seemed to satiate something deep inside me.
"Oh? I didn't hear about that." Noah said almost casually, but I could tell from his voice that he and his friends were going to chat about this later.
Goth girl didn't lower her eyes while Myra stepped away from my touch, her face flushed. "I'm fine."
My face twisted into a crooked smile, "Good to know."
"Cap." Noah spoke, turning towards me completely, "There's a party at my place tomorrow. I would love for you to come."
I had already heard about the party from Keith, who had been invited with countless others from the soccer team, but such frolics didn't appeal to me unless my Spanish folks were involved.
However, there was someone important I had to meet at that party, so obviously, I broke into a smile and changed the timbre of my voice.
"Of course, I will be there."
